Candidate Journey at Penta Consulting

Your Journey with Penta Consulting: From Application to Long-Term Career Partnership

At Penta Consulting, every candidate is treated as a professional, not a profile. Whether you are a network engineer exploring your next contract, a cybersecurity specialist considering a cross-border move, or a technology consultant ready for a new challenge, the experience of working with us should feel structured, transparent, and genuinely supportive from the very first interaction.

This page explains what you can expect at each stage of your journey with us: how decisions are made, how we communicate, and how we continue to support you long after you have started an assignment.

Our commitment: We will always tell you where you stand. We may not always have an immediate answer, but we will never leave you without a clear next step or a point of contact.

We operate across Europe, the Middle East, and South Africa, placing highly skilled technology professionals into complex, high-value programmes. The roles we work on are often specialised, time-sensitive, and require precise matching. That context shapes how we work with candidates: with care, with rigour, and with respect for your time.

Stage 1: Application

How to apply

You can apply to a specific role through our website or submit a general expression of interest if you do not see a current opening that fits your profile. We also receive applications through referrals and direct outreach from candidates who have worked with us previously or who have been recommended by colleagues in our network.

However you reach us, your application is reviewed by a specialist consultant, not filtered out by automated screening alone. We believe that a CV tells part of the story; the conversation that follows tells the rest.

What happens after you apply

Once your application is received, a member of our team will review it against our current live requirements and our pipeline of upcoming opportunities. Because the roles we work on are often highly specific, it is not always possible to respond to every application immediately.

What you will always receive:

  • Confirmation that your application has been received
  • A clear indication of whether your profile is being actively considered
  • An honest assessment of fit, even when the answer is not what you hoped for

We do not believe in leaving candidates in silence. If your profile is not the right match for current requirements, we will tell you, and where we can, we will explain why. If there is a future opportunity that may suit you, we will keep your details on file with your permission and reach out when something relevant arises.

Stage 2: Screening

If your profile is a strong match, a Penta consultant will reach out to arrange an initial conversation. This is not a formal interview; it is a structured discussion designed to give both sides a clearer picture.

What we cover in a screening call

Our consultants come prepared. Before the call, they will have reviewed your CV in detail and familiarised themselves with the role or programme in question. The conversation typically covers:

  • Your technical background, specialisms, and the environments you have worked in
  • Your availability, notice period, and preferred working arrangements
  • Contractual structure, rates, and any cross-border considerations relevant to the role
  • Your career goals and what you are looking for in your next assignment
  • Any questions you have about the client, the project, or how Penta operates

This is also your opportunity to ask the difficult questions. We would rather have a frank conversation early than place someone in a role that is not the right fit.

After the screening call

Following your conversation with us, you will receive a clear summary of the next steps. If we are progressing your application, we will explain what the client process looks like, the likely timeline, and who your point of contact will be throughout. If we are not progressing at this stage, we will tell you directly and, where appropriate, discuss whether other opportunities in our pipeline may be relevant.

A note on timelines: The pace of client processes varies. Some move quickly; others involve multiple stakeholders and take longer. We will always give you an honest picture of the expected timeframe rather than an optimistic one we cannot stand behind.

Stage 3: Interview Coordination

When a client wishes to interview you, Penta manages the full coordination process. Our role here is to reduce friction, ensure you are well-prepared, and act as a professional bridge between you and the client organisation.

Before your interview

Your consultant will provide a comprehensive briefing that goes beyond logistics. You will receive:

What we provide Why it matters
Full role and programme context So you understand the client’s objectives, not just the job description
Client background and key stakeholders So you can ask informed questions and demonstrate genuine interest
Interview format and likely question areas So there are no surprises on the day
Practical details (format, platform, time zones) So logistics never become a distraction
Guidance on contractual or compliance factors Particularly relevant for cross-border or regulated environments

We also encourage you to come back to us with questions before the interview. If there is something you are unsure about, ask. We would rather you go in fully prepared than hold back out of concern it might seem like a gap.

After your interview

We will follow up with you promptly after the interview to hear your perspective and gather any feedback you want us to relay to the client. We will also pursue feedback from the client on your behalf and share it with you as soon as we receive it.

We will always communicate the outcome directly to you. We do not send automated notifications for decisions of this significance. You will hear from your consultant personally, whether the news is positive or not.

Stage 4: Offer and Onboarding

Receiving an offer is a significant moment. Our job at this stage is to make the transition into your new assignment as smooth and well-supported as possible, particularly where cross-border compliance, contractual structure, or mobility arrangements are involved.

Offer and contract stage

Once a client confirms an offer, your Penta consultant will walk you through the details before you are asked to sign anything. This includes:

  • Rate, payment structure, and currency arrangements
  • Contract duration and any extension or renewal terms
  • Working arrangements, location requirements, and travel expectations
  • Compliance obligations relevant to the country or jurisdiction
  • Your employment or engagement model, including any Employer of Record arrangements where applicable

We work with professionals across multiple jurisdictions, and we understand that the paperwork can feel complex. We will not rush you through it. If you have questions about your contract, we will answer them clearly or connect you with the right specialist.

Onboarding support

Once contracts are signed, our team coordinates your onboarding with the client. Depending on the assignment, this may include:

  • Visa and work permit support for international placements
  • Relocation assistance and in-country orientation where relevant
  • Access to local Penta contacts in the region you are being deployed to
  • Equipment, system access, and site induction coordination
  • Introduction to your dedicated Resource Care contact

Penta’s dedicated Resource Care team is your ongoing point of contact once you are on assignment. They are not a helpdesk; they are a team of people whose specific responsibility is to ensure that contractors and consultants placed by Penta are supported, informed, and treated well throughout the duration of their engagement.

Stage 5: Assignment Support

The relationship does not end at placement. For Penta, ongoing assignment support is not an afterthought; it is a core part of how we operate and a key reason why professionals choose to work with us repeatedly.

Your Resource Care team

Once on assignment, you will have a named Resource Care contact at Penta. This person is responsible for your welfare and experience throughout the engagement. They will check in with you regularly, not just when a contract renewal is approaching, and they are available to you if issues arise.

Your Resource Care contact can assist with:

  • Day-to-day queries about your contract, invoicing, or payment
  • Concerns about your working environment or assignment conditions
  • Communication with the client where you need Penta to act on your behalf
  • Changes to your assignment scope, location, or working arrangements
  • Welfare support, particularly for professionals working away from home or across borders

Staying informed during your assignment

We believe that professionals on long-term assignments should never feel forgotten. Our commitment during your placement is straightforward:

You will always know who to contact at Penta. You will always receive a response. And if something has changed or is taking longer than expected, we will tell you proactively rather than waiting for you to chase us.

This matters particularly for professionals on international assignments, where administrative complexity and distance can make communication feel harder. Penta’s global offices and regional teams are structured specifically to ensure that support is local and accessible, not centralised and distant.

Compliance and payroll

For professionals engaged through Penta’s managed resource or Employer of Record model, our compliance and payroll teams handle the administrative complexity of operating across jurisdictions. This includes tax compliance, social contributions, and regulatory requirements specific to the country of deployment. You focus on the work; we manage the framework around it.

Stage 6: End of Assignment and Redeployment

As an assignment approaches its end, Penta begins planning your next steps. We do not wait until the final week to have this conversation. Our aim is to ensure that you have visibility of what comes next well in advance of your current engagement concluding.

Contract extensions

Where a client wishes to extend your assignment, your Resource Care contact and consultant will discuss the terms with you as early as possible. Extensions are not always straightforward; they may involve rate reviews, scope changes, or revised compliance arrangements. We will walk through any changes transparently and give you the time and information you need to make an informed decision.

Redeployment

For professionals who are not being extended, or who are ready for a new challenge, our redeployment process begins proactively. Your consultant will:

  • Review your updated preferences and availability
  • Brief you on relevant opportunities in our current pipeline
  • Introduce you to colleagues in other practice areas or regions where your skills are in demand
  • Provide an honest assessment of the market and realistic timelines

The advantage of working with Penta over the long term is network depth. Because we operate across multiple geographies and technology disciplines, we frequently have visibility of opportunities that are not publicly advertised. Professionals who have worked with us before are prioritised in that pipeline.

Staying in our network

Even when there is no immediate opportunity, we encourage you to stay connected. Our network of technology professionals is one of our most valuable assets, and we invest in maintaining those relationships over time. Professionals who remain in our network benefit from:

  • Early visibility of new mandates before they are advertised
  • Introductions to relevant client contacts where appropriate
  • Ongoing support from their Penta consultant as their career evolves

We are a long-term partner, not a transactional recruiter. The professionals who get the most from working with Penta are those who treat the relationship as ongoing, and we do the same.

How We Communicate: Our Principles

Across every stage of the journey, the quality of our communication is what distinguishes a good recruitment experience from a poor one. These are the principles that guide how we communicate with every candidate we work with.

Principle What it means in practice
Honesty over optimism We will not tell you what you want to hear if it is not accurate. If the timeline is uncertain, we say so. If the fit is not right, we say so.
Proactive over reactive We aim to update you before you need to ask. If something has changed or is delayed, you will hear from us first.
Named contacts, not call centres You will always have a named consultant and Resource Care contact. You will not be passed between anonymous team members.
Consistent across borders Whether you are based in the UK, Germany, South Africa, or the UAE, the standard of communication you receive from Penta is the same.
Respectful of your time We will not contact you unnecessarily, but we will always respond when you reach out.

What we ask of you

Communication works in both directions. To support you effectively, we ask that you:

  • Keep us informed of changes to your availability, circumstances, or preferences
  • Respond to our outreach in a reasonable timeframe, particularly when time-sensitive decisions are involved
  • Let us know promptly if something is not working well on your assignment
  • Be direct with us about your expectations; we can only manage what we know

The more openly you communicate with us, the better we can advocate for you.
