Penta Consulting is proud to have achieved Level 1 B-BBEE accreditation again for 2025, the highest rating possible under South Africa’s Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) framework.
This framework is a progressive policy that has been in development since South Africa’s first democratic elections in 1994. The driving force behind the scheme is to help reverse the damage that decades of inequality caused and ensure that the economic development of the country benefits all its citizens, regardless of background or ethnicity.
Businesses operating in South Africa are assessed across several criteria on an annual basis; to quantify and verify the role they are playing within black economic empowerment. This is measured across many categories, including their management and operating practices.
One aspect considered is the role a business plays in actively driving local skill development and acquisition. As part of Penta Consulting’s remit in this area we have been funding an annual scheme that trains drone pilots. This is a growing career opportunity in the country, with many commercial industries requiring qualified pilots.
Penta Consulting Non-Executive Director Mokgadi Rameetse was on site in Durban this year to speak with trainees and those delivering the training.
The trainees were very engaged throughout the training. When asked about how they were getting on, some quotes included:
“It is an amazing opportunity with a great number of career paths. Drones are being used across agriculture, mine surveying, IT, Security and Wildlife Conservation and more. Learning about these different pathways has been a really interesting part of the course.”
“I’d never considered pursuing a career path in anything to do with aviation. This is typically a male-dominated industry and so becoming qualified as a drone pilot has been very empowering.”
“It’s more than just learning to control the drone. It’s learning about the legal frameworks around flying the drone, how to share the airspace, how to interpret and respond to weather conditions and much more.”
Discussing Penta Consulting South Africa’s B-BBEE efforts, Mokgadi said “Penta Consulting South Africa (PCSA) have genuinely embraced the spirit of B-BBEE and we are making a significant impact through our transformation efforts.”
“Over the years, there has been a positive trend of businesses integrating B-BBEE principles into their operations. PCSA has invested millions into B-BBEE because we believe that this legislation can help improve the south African economy.”
“PCSA is happy to mention that we are, achieving the objective of B-BBEE. All our programmes and training serve underprivileged and underrepresented people such as black women, the youth, rural communities, and disabled people.”
Following the conclusion of the training course, Penta Consulting supports trainees in securing permanent employment. We have seen first-hand the difference this programme can make in people’s lives and we will continue to invest in the coming years.
