Senior API Developer

Contract: 6 Months
Location: Remote


About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior API Developer to join our team on a 6-month remote contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and high-performing APIs that support critical business applications and integrations.

This role requires a strong technical background in API architecture, cloud technologies, and software engineering best practices. You will work closely with solution architects, product owners, developers, and stakeholders to deliver robust integration solutions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs.
  • Build scalable integration solutions between internal and third-party platforms.
  • Define and implement API standards, governance, and best practices.
  • Develop secure authentication and authorization mechanisms (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT).
  • Optimize API performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Create and maintain API documentation using tools such as Swagger/OpenAPI.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Conduct code reviews and mentor junior developers where required.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues.
  • Ensure compliance with security, data protection, and regulatory requirements.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Skills

  • Strong experience developing APIs using:

    • .NET / .NET Core (C#), Java, Node.js, or Python

  • Extensive experience with:

    • REST APIs

    • GraphQL (desirable)
    • Microservices Architecture
    • JSON/XML
  • Experience with cloud platforms:

    • Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform

  • Strong knowledge of:

    • OAuth 2.0

    • OpenID Connect
    • JWT
    • API Security Best Practices
  • Experience using:

    • Swagger/OpenAPI

    • Postman
    • Git
    • Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins

Database Technologies

  • SQL Server
  • PostgreSQL
  • MySQL
  • MongoDB (desirable)

DevOps & Automation

  • CI/CD pipeline development and support
  • Containerisation technologies (Docker)
  • Kubernetes experience preferred

Essential Experience

  • 7+ years of software development experience.
  • 5+ years of API development and integration experience.
  • Proven experience designing enterprise-grade API solutions.
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Strong stakeholder communication skills.
  • Experience working on remote distributed teams.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • Microsoft Azure, AWS, or GCP certifications.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures.
  • Knowledge of API Management platforms such as:

    • Azure API Management

    • Apigee
    • Kong
    • MuleSoft
