Penta are pleased to support the Wandle Trust with their Trout in the Classroom project again this year with a contribution to the cost to run the project and also with the manpower to set-up and maintain the fish tank at Culvers House Primary School.
The Wandle Trust run the project with local schools to hatch trout from the egg and grow them for a couple of months before releasing the fry into the River Wandle. A number of educational activities are run alongside the trout and a team of year 5 and 6 pupils oversee the day to day running of the tank and are there to release the fry into the river.
Penta staff Chris Dodge and Garry Renton were on site today to get the tank set-up ready for the 200 trout eggs that are due to arrive on the 8th January. As you can see from the picture below, there are a lot of pieces that need to be washed and put together to get the tank up and running.
After a few issues with the chiller (needed to keep the water at river temperature), the tank set-up was complete. Now we just need the trout egss. Roll on January the 8th.
